Winery Introduction

Cape Mountain Vineyard, formerly known as Alkmaar Winery was established in 1868 is a historic boutique vineyard.

The farm was founded by Dr. Marinus Jacobus Stucki who established the first Dutch School on Alkmaar in Blouvlei area where he devoted his life and aptly named it after his town of birth in the Netherlands. Students of the school were Springbok Paul Roos, Judge H.S. van Zyl, Prof. G.G. Gillies, Pastor D. Wilcocks, Poet J.D. Cilliers, Willem Conradie and Prof. Sarel van der Merve.

After long talks with three promising Chinese young people in 2014, Mr. Juan Moller, the heir of the fifth generations of the vineyard, made a determination to build up a totally new series of wine as Cape Mountain Winery brand to promote all over the world and expect the wine lovers to enjoy the fantastic South African Wines. And surely the mission to spread the Cape Mountain Winery comes to the three promising young people. With 150 years history, Cape Mountain Winery has 42 Ha of land and cultivars planted on the farm are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Viognier, Mourvedre, Pinotage and Chardonnay.  The vineyard has the perfect terroir of shale and granite producing award winning wines of Rhone and Bordeaux style, as well as our proudly South Africa Pinotage which earned a Platter's four star rating.

Under the ancestor's instruction made by Dr. Marinus as " Revering the Nature, Transmitting Terroir". we have made marvelous wines combining the style with New World's untrammeled enthusiasm and the Old World's elegance and fragrance.

Cape Mountain Wines are now so enjoyable and loved world wide by Europeans, Americans, Asians and even very famous people like the former Secretary of UN Mr. Ban Ki-moon and Mr. Dai Long, the Hong Kong Gusteau, and they give a very high commands on Cape Mountain wines.

Vineyard

  • The Cape Mountains stretch from the sky to the most beautiful wine region in the world. The vineyards are mainly concentrated in the hilly areas on both sides of the valley and in the foothills, so that the grape cultivation can benefit from the diverse regional climate brought by mountainous terrain and different geology.

The uneven terrain and the diversity of the valley slopes, coupled with the intersection of the two oceans, especially the cold Bangla Ocean from Antarctica in the Atlantic Ocean flows northward through the west coast, slowing the summer heat. During the day, there is a breeze from the sea, and at night there is a breeze and mist rich in moisture. Moderate lighting also plays a big role. In this way, topographical differences and regional climatic conditions create a variety of grape varieties and qualities.

  • Located at the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean and the Indian Ocean, it is also home to the world-famous Cape of Good Hope. It is located at a latitude and longitude of 30° to 50°. It has a unique geographical location in the world and enjoys the reputation of "excellent geographical location" for high-quality grape producing regions. The cold Atlantic airflow and the Indian Ocean heating flow blend together to form a special climate and soil, which breeds the world's unique grape varieties. In South Africa, viticulture is mainly concentrated in the Mediterranean-style climate region at 34 degrees south latitude. The western part of the region has a cool climate and has ideal conditions for large-scale cultivation of excellent grape varieties, forming a coastal area that does not exceed 50 kilometers inland from the seaside.
